Obtaining or replacing your lost social security card is completely free. Do not ever make payments to companies which charge for this service. As of the time of this post, the Social Security Administration (SSA) offices may be dealing with Covid protocol and you might not be able to perform the service in person. Here are the steps:
- Click here to download the SS-5 form. All of the instructions are present within this document.
- Complete the form for your required action (new, replacement, etc.)
- Use the link within the file to find the address of the Social Security Administration building in your area. Mail the form and a copy of your identification to the SSA building in your area. We recommend tracking your package for delivery (FedEx). The preferable ID would be a Passport card (your citizenship and ID can be verified at the same time). The SSA office will immediately mail your ID back before your new social security card is issued. Your new card is issued in 7 to 14 days.
Please refer to the document for all the official specifics. All of the pertinent contact information for your Social Security Administer can be found within the document. This service is free through the US government.
